Walk21 Toronto 2007 – October 1-4, 2007

Walk 21 Toronto 2007

Green Communities Canada and the City of Toronto co-hosted Walk21 Toronto 2007, a major international conference that addresses issues relating to walking and pedestrian environments and liveable communities. Conference papers and a conference overview can be viewed or downloaded at

This was the eighth annual Walk21 conference and only the second time that it was held in North America. The conference theme “Putting Pedestrians First” focused on the importance of walking in urban, suburban and rural communities. It also provided an opportunity to discuss various walking issues in an international forum.

Green Communities Canada, as part of the lead-up to the Walk21 conference, worked with ten Canadian communities on the Canadian Walkability Roadshow. The resulting case studies from this innovative and intense community project can be found at or email for a copy of the Walkability Roadshow Case Study CD.
